The Center for Applied Counterterrorism Studies at UNC Charlotte aims to better understand the causes and consequences of terrorism and political violence, and to devise and evaluate public policies that minimize such violence while respecting human rights and the principles of democratic rule.

- Cindy Combs and Justin Conrad, faculty members in the Political Science Department, were guests on WFAE’s “Charlotte Talks” on Tuesday, September 6. During the live program, they discussed the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks and what the nation learned from the tragedy. Listen to the progam here.

- The Center co-hosted a round table discussion of "Public and Nonprofit Collaboration in Disaster Response" at UNC Charlotte. This event was hosted with the Nonprofit and Voluntary Action Center and supported by the Foundation for the Carolinas. You can find further details about the round table here.
- Research on the relationships between human rights and terrorism conducted by James Igoe Walsh was featured in Miller-McCune magazine.
- Professors Cynthia Combs, Suzanne Leland, and James Igoe Walsh presented their paper "Catastrophic Homeland Security Hazards" at the annual meeting of the Western Political Science Association in San Francisco in April 2010.
